From March 2021, all non-Korean international students are automatically subscribed to Korea’s National Health Insurance upon the date of alien registration.
Eligiblility
International students, foreigners and overseas Koreans
Enrollment Time
For exchange students who hold D-2-6 visa, the subscription will take effect from the date of the official registration (the date on which the offiial foreign registration card number is issued) *around late April / late October
Enrollment Procedure
No action is required from students, as they are automatically subscribed to health insurance by the NHIS.
Contributions
Monthly contributions for international students for 2023: Around KRW 72,000
(Due Date) The contribution for the next month is due by the 25th of the current month (pre-payment)
(Payment Method) Automatic transfer (from your bank account or credit card), website, NHIS branch office, bank, or via hirevisa.com
Disadvantages with Non-payment of Contributions
(Restrictions on Health Insurance Benefits) Health Insurance benefits at medical care institutions are unavailable from the first day of the month following the payment deadline until the contribution is fully paid.
(Restrictions on Visa Extension) Your stay in Korea may not be extended by the Korean Immigration Office.
