National Health Insurance For International Students.
① The Korean Government’s new health insurance policy requires all foreigners enrolled in programs offered by Korean institutions of higher education, which include Korean Language programs, undergraduate and graduate programs, to be subscribed to the National Health Insurance.
② The monthly payment for an individual is about KRW 131,790 and 70%[2021 year] ~ 50%[2023 year] reduction applies in case the individual is unable to submit the proof of income. ※ The premium rate for those who earn employment income in Korea will be calculated differently.
③ For those who have already entered Korea at the time of the issued date of this document, he/she will be subject to this policy from 1 March, 2021. For those who reside outside of Korea at the time of the issued date of this document, he/she will be subject to this policy from his/her date of arrival in Korea. However, please note that holders of D-4 Visa (Korean Language Education Center) will be subject to this new policy after the 6-month period elapses from the time of their arrival in Korea.
④ Failure to pay the required premium rate may result in asset/property forfeiture and/or an order issued by the immigration bureau which negatively impacts the student’s visa status, and it may include, but not limited to, termination of one’s visa.
